Arriving in Bali: get from DPS to the right hotel
Save the address, settle the pickup and give the first evening some room.

Before flying to Bali, save your hotel’s full address and decide how you will meet your transport at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, airport code DPS. A flight labelled Denpasar does not tell a driver where you are staying. A useful arrival plan ends with a checked-in room and something to eat; the sightseeing can wait until you know how much evening remains.
DPS is the airport, not your hotel address
Indonesia’s official Denpasar guide places Ngurah Rai Airport in Tuban, between Kuta and Jimbaran. Denpasar is a city, while your booking may be in Seminyak, Sanur, Ubud or another part of Bali. Use the property’s exact location when discussing the transfer.
Save the hotel name, street address, map pin and reception contact together. Check that the pin matches your confirmation, especially for a villa with a similar name to another property. Ask whether a car can reach the entrance and whether anyone will be available if you arrive late. A screenshot of the final approach can help when your phone has no connection.
Choose how you want to leave arrivals
A hotel-arranged transfer is a practical choice when you want the pickup settled before departure. Request the total price, vehicle capacity, luggage allowance and waiting terms in writing. Share your flight number and confirm whether your flight arrives at the international or domestic terminal. Ask how the arrangement changes if the flight is delayed.
For an airport taxi, the airport’s international arrival guide directs passengers to the official counter in the International Arrivals Area. Show the full hotel address and confirm the fare and payment method there. Comparing a quote for “Denpasar” with one for your actual hotel would tell you very little.
Agree on a recognisable meeting point
The airport guide identifies an arrival corridor for meeting passengers after they exit the terminal and a separate pickup zone for vehicles. Ask your transfer provider for current meeting instructions, including the name displayed on a sign and a contact number. “Outside the airport” needs a more precise answer.
The airport’s transport page also lists Grab and Gojek passenger lounges. If you choose an app service, use its current pickup instructions and the airport signs. Confirm the driver and vehicle details before boarding. For any pickup, keep one agreed meeting place while resolving a missed connection instead of having both parties move around.

Plan around your actual destination
Ask the hotel or transfer provider for a realistic journey estimate for your arrival time. Keep that separate from the time needed to leave the airport. Landing, collecting your belongings, finding the pickup and reaching reception are separate parts of the evening; a driving estimate covers only one.
If you are still choosing accommodation, consider whether travelling directly to your main base will feel manageable after the flight. A first night closer to the airport may suit a late arrival, but it adds another checkout and transfer. Choose it for a concrete reason, such as avoiding a long onward journey when tired, rather than because every Bali trip supposedly needs an airport night.
Keep the first night easy to change
Confirm late check-in, then find out how you can get a meal near or at the property. Pack a small arrival kit where you can reach it: charger, any essentials and a clean change of clothes. That saves opening every bag when all you want is a shower.
A prepaid dinner or a performance with a fixed start can become an awkward first-night deadline. Keep the coast and an Uluwatu sunset evening for a day when you can plan the journey properly. If you arrive with time and energy left, let a simple walk or nearby meal be an extra.
Make tomorrow’s transfer a separate plan
If Nusa Penida follows your arrival night, plan the hotel-to-harbour journey separately from the airport pickup. Save the boat operator’s departure location and check-in instructions, then work backwards from them. Our Bali to Nusa Penida boat guide covers that next leg. Before boarding your flight, keep the pickup confirmation and hotel contact available offline; those are the details you will need first.
A few useful answers
Is Bali’s airport in Denpasar?
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is in Tuban, between Kuta and Jimbaran. Use your hotel’s full address and map pin for the transfer; Denpasar alone is not a useful destination instruction.
Where should I arrange an airport taxi?
The airport’s international arrival guide directs passengers to the official taxi counter in the International Arrivals Area. Confirm the destination, fare and payment method there, and follow the current airport signs.
Should I book an activity on my arrival evening?
Keep the first evening flexible, especially after a late flight. Confirm check-in and food first. Add an outing only after you know your arrival progress and how much time and energy remain.
